Coming back from an injury/sickness
Getting Sick and injured are the downfall of many runners seasons and even careers! Being sick/injured is bad, but it is even worse to come back to training to get hurt again from over training.
Accepting!
Everybody hates getting injured/sick but when it happens it is something we just have to accept. We need to give our body the necessary time to recover before we go back running. Wouldn't it be a disaster if you went back running after a stress fracture was nearly healed but not fully healed! It would fracture worse than before and leave you out of the sport for a good while!!
The same thing with being sick, you need to let your body fight of the sickness. If you start running when your body is still fighting off the sickness, your body won't have the energy to fight the sickness and you will become more sick!!
Getting back into it!
You have to be patient and wait until you are fully healed! We are all eager to get back training to not loose any fitness, but in these scenarios you need to look at the bigger picture. You have to tell yourself that you're going to let your body rest until its recovered and then train hard and smart for the rest of the year to achieve your goals! And usually that is enough to achieve your goals!
When you are finally fully recovered it's also important to get back into things with ease and not rush back into the same training you were normally doing! This will lead to further injuries to other parts of your body. A good rule of thumb is too increase your mileage by 10% every 3rd week this will help you increase your mileage safely and not get injured!! It usually takes you the same amount of time to get your fitness back than the time you were injured.
