Race of the championships!!

The womens 1500 turned out to be one the most exciting races of the championships so far. A stacked field had dawned the starting line in what would be a 1500m race no body could predict!

The main stars of the race were Kipyegon, Dibaba, Muir, Hassan, Simpson and 800m runner Caster Semenya. Dibaba was out of form so you could count her out, however the medals were a certain possibility for any of these 5 girls.

The home crowd were rooting for the two Brits Laura Muir and Laura Weightman. Muir new she had to keep the pace fast and honest as runners like Semenya, Hassan and Simpson can really kick fast off a slow pace!

The race was taken out in 65 seconds, a fast but controlled pace to lead out the field. Hassan was calm as ever waiting and threatening at the back ready to kick. The pace then slowed lap 2 with Muir running a 71 second lap. The field was bunched at this pedestrian pace. Then, coming from the back Stifan Hassan made a decisive move with 600m to go. She wanted to hold this lead all the way to the finish.

As they hit the bell, Hassan was in front followed closely by Kipyegon who made a good move with 600 to go to follow Hassan, Muir and Simpson were in close pursuit with Semenya a bit further back. With 200m to go Kipyegon and Hassan were neck and neck with Muir catching up on them and Simpson just behind.

The crowd were ecstatic as they watched Muir come down the home straight in a medal position. Hassan was dying at this stage as Kipyegon pushed on for the win. The battle for medals behind her was fascinating as Simpson and Semenya came storming down the home straight to pass Muir and Hassan out to grab 2nd and 3rd respectively. Muir was ran out of the medals by 0.07 seconds!

It was an incredible race where no one could really pick a definite winner even with 200m to go!! The 5 favorites performed accordingly as they all to their full capabilities leaving nothing out there on the track!
