Asics Gel-Nimbus 19 review
The Asics Gel-Nimbus is one of my favorite running shoes I have worn over the last couple of years. It is comfortable light and durable making it one of the best around!
Weight and cushioning:
The sole unit is completely new, as Asics is rolling out their new cushion system of "FLYTEFOAM" in the midsole. The combination of the old Gel system and the "FLYTEFOAM" will lower the weight and keep the ultra level cushioning.
They weigh in at around 13 oz depending on the size. The sole unit really responds better to faster tempo work with an aggressive upturn to the toe-off area giving you a very fluid feeling during your entire stride
Durability:
One thing I loved about the gel nimbus was how long it lasted! It held together extremely well even after logging nearly 500 miles in them!! The sole unit does wither away after a while but a grip is still kept relatively well. The gel stayed impact the whole time however I had to ditch them when the material ripped along the insole.
Upper:
The upper, to my surprise was very narrow and tight. It didn't affect me too much as naturally I have narrow feet but I can see it being a problem for wider feet. I wouldn't usually do my long runs in these shoes due to their tightness as it does get quite uncomfortable.
However the laces work well and keep the shoes tight while not constricting. The tongue is well cushioned and still breathable.
Overview:
This is a great, cushioned supportive running shoe. I would recommend it for faster threshold runs where you want cushioning put also than responsive feel. It is a little tight over the foot and can be sometimes uncomfortable. The mesh is light and breathable. It is very durable and is well worth the money paid for it!!
